By Kat Webb & The Herald Journal • Mar 15, 2021 In the shadows of the COVID-19 pandemic is a more silent epidemic: mental health and suicide. Health advocates in the county are hoping to promote resilience and awareness of suicide prevention resources in March.
The effort comes after roughly a dozen deaths by suicide were handled by the Cache County Attorney Office’s Victim Services from December through February, though the state medical examiner has not released confirmation. The office handled five suicide cases over the same period in 2019-2020.
But as any advocate or loved one will say, even one death due to suicide is too many. ....

By Kat Webb & The Herald Journal • Mar 8, 2021 To accompany its new mechanical water treatment facility, Logan has designed an environmentally friendly plan to compost the biosolids, but residents say the planned site is too near “the gateway to Benson.” “We already have the sewer system there, there’s Gossner’s, and we have their polishing ponds,” former-Judge Thomas Willmore said at the Cache County Planning Commission meeting on Thursday. “There are other places to put it. Benson is a gateway, 3200 West is a gateway for businesses and Benson will continue to grow.” Another resident, Katie Fuller, spoke of how Benson does not use the sewer system like the majority of the county. ....
