The bank of england has increased the rate by a quarter of 1 , to 0. 5 , as it tries to control inflation. The banks governor mark carney said households across the uk are generally well positioned to deal with the rate increase. The decision will mean higher Monthly Payments for millions with variable rate mortgages. But its good news at last for savers. Heres our economics editor kamal ahmed.
