Saying residents are getting "the government they deserve," East Dundee Village President Jeff Lynam lambasted some village trustees Monday for the way they campaigned ahead of their reelection this month.
During a contentious village board meeting two weeks before Election Day, residents warned East Dundee trustees up for election that they would remember how they voted on the Elgin Mall. Despite the threats, however, voters supported all four incumbents including the three who backed the mall.
Elgin Mall owners will have to wait a little longer to get the approval they need to relocate to East Dundee. Although village trustees in February voted 4-1 to appove zoning and a special-use permit for the mall, East Dundee Village President Jeff Lynam Monday took the unusual step of vetoing those approvals.
With only a decade remaining on a property tax incentive program to help spur redevelopment in East Dundee s downtown district, village trustees are wondering if a new one is needed to breathe new life into the Haeger Pottery property and other parcels.
