The London District Catholic school board is undergoing a major human resources shuffle as both its education director and a superintendent retire amid the appointment of three new superintendents.
Education director Linda Staudt and seven-year superintendent Kathy Furlong are retiring this summer, after many years on the job and a year and a half of navigating a pandemic.

Staudt, who worked 10 years as a teacher, said she led the board through multiple challenges, including declining enrolment and a deficit before facing COVID-19.

With high school exams cancelled amid the pandemic, school boards are assigning essays and having teacher-student chats to replace the nearly one-third of final marks that final tests had covered.
In the past, final exams accounted for 30 per cent of a high schooler’s grade, and passing or failing the exam could make or break a student’s mark.

Last year the Education Ministry gave school boards the option to remove exam days from their calendars due to the circumstances around COVID-19, an option London-area school boards have embraced.
