CADILLAC â Since Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced Michiganders 65 and older would be eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccination starting Monday, Kathy Kimmel said the phone at the Wexford County Council on Aging has been ringing nonstop. The Wexford County COA executive director said calls from county senior citizens have remained constant throughout the pandemic but picked up after Whitmerâs announcement earlier in the week. Kimmel said the COA was assisting those seniors who are not tech-savvy or donât have access to the internet get registered for the vaccination Friday via District Health Department No. 10. That, however, changed when the online registration was deactivated by the health department. ....
Local Nursing Homes Prepare for COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution December 29, 2020 The state has begun distributing the COVID-19 vaccine to skilled nursing home facilities in Michigan. “There has been a lot of excitement, good conversation,” says Traci Moore, MSN, RN Clinical Manager at Samaritas in Cadillac. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) started rolling out the COVID-19 vaccine this week through the Pharmacy Partnership for Long-term Care Program. They partnered with CVS and Walgreens to help distribute the vaccine to care facilities. “Our staff seems excited about it,” says Moore. “I think there’s definitely a sense of relief through the building, either way and hopefully this will be a step in the right direction to move us forward.” ....
December 16, 2020 (LAWRENCE CO.) – Lawrence County Council members approved giving a stipend to some Lawrence County employees from COVID-19 relief funds. The last Lawrence County Council meeting for 2020. David Flinn served Lawrence County residents for 16 years. Jim Edwards has served the Lawrence County Council for 22 years. Both Councilmen terms ended this year. Lawrence County full-time employees who were hired before December 1, 2020, will receive $1,000 and permanent part-time employees will receive $500. Those checks will be given out next Tuesday.
