Na‘alehu Woman Sentenced to Life in Prison for 2009 Orchidland Homicide
A 56-year-old Ka‘u man once charged as being an accomplice to the 2009 shooting death of a 21-year-old rodeo champion was sentenced to five years in prison for his role in the murder.
Fourteen years after the shooting death of 21-year-old rodeo standout Kaycee Smith, a 61-year-old Naalehu woman who called herself his “hanai auntie” was finally tried and convicted of the June 30, 2009, murder in Puna.
After reading the jury’s guilty verdict on Thursday afternoon, Prosecutors requested that Patricia Wong, who was previously released on $250,000 bail, be denied bail. In response, the Court increased Wong’s bail to $5,000,000 and she was taken into custody.
