  A Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday ordered the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice to re-open the investigation into the death of the founder of Newswatch Magazine, Dele Giwa, in 1986. The court ordered the chief law officer of the country to also open the prosecution of those who killed the journalist. Justice Inyang Ekwo gave the ruling, adding that the Nigerian Government, through the office of the Attorney General of the Federation, should prosecute and penalise the killers of media practitioners in the country.

As murderers continue to be allowed to circulate within the bounds of civilised ambience, and eliminate people with utmost impunity, they not only constitute a threat to hapless, decent and hard-working citizens, their vile activities go further to stifle critical thoughts that are very essential in influencing the evolution of responsible governance which fosters progress and development.

  Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) has promised to reopen the murder case of a veteran journalist, Dele Giwa. Giwa was killed exactly 36 years ago during the regime of a former military dictator, Ibrahim Babangida. The AAC presidential hopeful who made this known on social media narrated how a letter bomb killed Giwa.

The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, says past leaders of Nigeria involved in the killings of innocent citizens in the past are now supporting the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi. Sowore disclosed this in a tweet on Saturday. “Obasanjo massacred Nigerians in Odi and Zaki Biam, Ibrahim Babangida killed Dele Giwa in 1986 with a parcel bomb went ahead to kill his friend Mamman Vatsa over a phantom coup.
