A total of $10 million was awarded as part of the state’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI). The city was chosen to receive the DRI funding in 2019, but due to the pandemic, the release of the funds was delayed. “This community, Utica, was one of the recipients in the last round, believe it or not, it was 2019 when we announced this, and it’s been a long, long wait for this community,” said Hochul. “I know that, I know it’s been painful, all of you waiting to hear about your projects, whether or not they’re going to funded or not, and to which level ....
Lt. Governor Kathy Hochul was in Utica today to announce projects approved for the City’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative. One of the projects will include an ice rink at Liberty Bell Park. Utica was awarded $10 million in DRI funding by the state in 2019 as a Round 4 winner. The money was released this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Utica is on the rise with a renewed sense of energy and optimism as we focus on our economic recovery, said Hochul. Our Downtown Revitalization Initiative projects will further create economic opportunity and transform the Utica community by making renovations to historic buildings, creating vibrant public spaces and providing critical support for local small businesses. ....

I know it’s been painful, all of you waiting to hear about your projects, whether or not they were going to be funded or not and to what level.” Projects receiving funding The 16 projects selected by the state to receive funding included a mixture of private and public ventures throughout the broader Genesee Street corridor. $2 million for Washington Street parking garage: The state funding will help fund a $5.4 million project for structural repairs and to restore parking spaces. $819,000 for MWPAI park: The area outside the art institute will be transformed into a park and event space in a $1 million project. ....
