The Rams took both games of a home-and-home series against the Cavaliers this season. VCU scored seven unanswered runs beginning in the seventh inning. A two-run homer by Connor Hujsak got the Rams on the board and snapped the Virginia bullpen’s 20.1 scoreless innings streak. Two of the three runs in the seventh were unearned. In the ninth, VCU sent nine batters to the plate and drew three walks (one intentional) and a hit by pitch in what proved to be the game-winning rally. The 17-run margin of victory over the Hokies was the largest of the 122-year history of the series. Virginia rattled off 18 unanswered runs after Virginia Tech took an initial 1-0 lead on an unearned run in the fourth. The lead was erased almost immediately by a solo home run by the leadoff hitter, Nic Kent (Charlottesville, Va.), top of the fifth. Kent led was one of nine Cavaliers to record a hit in the contest.
