A substandard Patrick Mahomes performance still led to a Chiefs victory

Imagine that your favorite team needs Week 17 of the NFL season to clinch the first seed of the postseason — and the sole bye week.
I cannot relate in the slightest.
On Sunday, the Kansas City Chiefs ensured that the AFC playoffs will run through Arrowhead Stadium with 17-14 comeback victory over the Atlanta Falcons. The game did not go even remotely how anyone had expected. The Chiefs’ offense was supposed to flex its muscles one final time before some key players sat down for a rest during the season’s final week. Instead, the offense was well below its standard, leaving a bad taste in our mouths. But defensively — with a pieced-together linebacker corps — Kansas City performed solidly, surrendering only two touchdowns.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Bernalillo County has plenty of room for public art.
This is why the Bernalillo County Arts Board is querying artists to propose a conceptual sketch for ideas for outdoor sculptures to be located along highly visible avenues and boulevards within Bernalillo County.
According to the county, regional artists residing in New Mexico, Oklahoma, Utah, Arizona, Colorado and Texas are invited to propose conceptual mid-size sculptures. The deadline is Jan. 29.

When I first started thinking about my prediction, we wrongly assumed that Taysom Hill was starting for the Saints. In a strange sort of way, I was petrified by the prospect of playing against a quarterback that isn’t scared to grind out tough yards with his legs, paired with an extremely aggressive head coach. Now that it’s been confirmed Drew Brees is starting, I fancy the Chiefs chances a little more. Spags can prepare for a more conventional type of game plan that should play to his defense’s strengths. The league’s two most consistent offenses from the last three years may end up producing a relatively low scoring affair.

Taking a look at the week of December 7 on Arrowhead Pride...
Defensive backs had a night
Tyrann Mathieu and L’Jarius Sneed played great games on Sunday night. Mathieu iced the game with his second interception on the night — and neither play was easy. The instinctual safety showed his preparation and film study by closing on a couple throws from Denver quarterback Drew Lock. It was a welcome sign to see the Chiefs turn the ball over twice. Sneed — a rookie defensive back — looks like the best cornerback on the Chiefs’ defense. He has the best athletic profile of any cornerback on the team and has shown inside-outside versatility. He lined up in the slot again this week and was great in the run game — showing a plus ability to tackle. He nearly grabbed another interception this week as well. Sneed seems to get his hand on at least one ball a game, and that’s not an accident. The ball finds players in the right position and this young guy is consistently where he needs to be.
