The City police have intensified enforcement of curbs introduced by the government in view of the COVID-19 outbreak.
On the first day of the restrictions, the police initiated legal action against 972 people for violating the pandemic norms. While 195 people were booked under the Kerala Epidemic Diseases Ordinance 2020, as many as 774 others were cumulatively fined Rs. 3.87 lakh for failing to wear masks outdoor. As many as 37,825 were issued strict warning by the police for other violations.
City Police Commissioner and Inspector General Balram Kumar Upadhyay urged the public to cooperate with the restrictions and to leave their homes only for essential activities. Home delivery must be encouraged. While those working in shops must wear double-layered masks, the pandemic protocol must be strictly adhered to. Only parcels and take-away facilities will be permitted in hotels and restaurants. ....

Show-cause notice issued to six private hospitals


‘50% of beds not allotted for COVID patients’
The district administration has issued show-cause notices to six private hospitals for failing to adhere to its directive to apportion half of their available beds for COVID-19 patients.
The District Disaster Management Authority has threatened to initiate action under the Disaster Management Act and the Kerala Epidemic Diseases Ordinance if the institutions failed to furnish satisfactory explanation within 24 hours.
District Collector Navjot Khosa had instructed private hospitals to reserve 50% of beds in their institutions for COVID-19 treatment.
Private institutions were roped in by the district administration to contain the surge in COVID-19 cases. ....

The Kerala government on Saturday said action will be taken against private testing lab in the state if they charge people money in excess to the rates fixed for RT-PCR or other COVID-19 tests or turn people away.
In the order, the state government said that private laboratories will perform RT-PCR tests at the government-revised rate of Rs 500 per test without turning away any person.
This (excessive charging and turning away) is a brazen challenge to the State s strategy for disease control and disaster management during the surge. This is an act against the State and the people during these extraordinary times of distress and disease, the order said. ....

Central Armed Police Forces to provide security to inner cordon of counting centres
Elaborate security arrangements have been made at counting centres at Sulthan Bathery, Mananthavady, and Kalpetta, District Police Chief Aravind Sukumar has said.
Addressing the media here on Saturday, Mr. Sukumar said security for the inner cordon of counting centres would be provided by the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF).
Security arrangements at each counting centre will be supervised by a police team which includes a Deputy Superintendent of Police, a Police Inspector, two Sub Inspectors, and 32 civil police officers, Mr. Sukumar said. Security arrangements outside the counting centres will be supervised by the Sub Divisional Police Officers concerned with the assistance of a 34-member team. ....
