Shaketra Payne is the owner of Ketra Braids and Beauty in Holland Township. The natural hair culturist sent ripples through the beauty community when she told WZZM-13 she can't wash her clients' hair.
Licensed cosmetologists in West Michigan were shocked to hear that natural hair culturists couldn't wash their clients' hair under state licensing laws.
"We can only do so much as a natural hair culturist," Shaketra Payne said, "and washing hair is one of those important things we're not allowed to do."
