Myanmar protesters 'barricaded' in by security forces: UN
UN chief Antonio Guterres has called for the safe release of hundreds of Myanmar protesters "barricaded" inside apartment complexes in Yangon, where security forces are violently cracking down on anti-junta demonstrations, his spokesman said.
Three demonstrators were killed in Myanmar yesterday, witnesses said, while shops, factories and banks were closed in the main city Yangon in protests against last month's military coup. Security forces were also deployed at hospitals and universities, state media said. Two of the victims died of gunshot wounds to the head in the northern town of Myitkyina, the witnesses said.

Security forces in Myanmar have pledged to round up Yangon protesters who defied a curfew. The UN and the US say people who took part in the pro-democracy rally should be allowed to return home.
