government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) recently announced the re-launch of the safari train project on two routes in a bid to boost tourism in the province. One route of the train will be from Peshawar to Attock, while the other will be from Peshawar to the Takht-Bhai area in the Mardan district.
However the famous safari/regular train service from Peshawar to the Landi Kotal sector, which was suspended a few years ago, has yet to get the attention of the authorities. The suspended train service, if revived, has the potential to attract tourists from all areas along the Afghan-Pakistan border, not only increasing tourism in the region but also making trade through Tourkham more viable. ....

KARAK: A policeman was shot dead in an attack on the security team of polio workers in Khyber Paktunkhwa s Karak Tuesday.
Unidentified motorcyclists opened fire on the team, killing constable Junaidullah, a resident of Mianki. Junaidullah belonged to the Frontier Reserve Police.
The police said an anti-polio team was vaccinating children in the area when they were attacked. The polio immunization drive has been stopped after the attack.
In a second attack on a polio team in Upper Dir, a Levies officer was injured. The incident took place in a village near Sheringal, an administrative unit of Upper Dir district. ....

Electricity restored in most parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Pesco

By PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa faced hours-long loadshedding on Sunday due to apparent fault at the national transmission lines.
A spokesman for the Peshawar Electricity Supply Company (Pesco) said electricity to most parts of the provincial capital and 41 areas of KP, besides 23 major hospitals, was restored following the other night’s electricity breakdown in the country.
He said that following the country’s wide electricity breakdown, work on restoration of electricity in all affected areas had been expedited in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where 40 to 41 percent electricity from feeders restored till 3pm on Sunday.
Out of 27 major hospitals, he said, electricity to 23 hospitals was restored in KP. Electricity of one 500 KV grid station, two 220 KV grid stations, 57 grid stations of 132 KV and four grid stations of 66KV had been restored. ....
