That apparently could take between five days and a few weeks and then your other option that they ve been talking about is the static kill shooting mud into the existing cap, the cap that s holding the oil in place. right. would you risk that? i don t think so. i think the static kill will put more pressure down the well bore. everybody knows that. and it could indeed compromise the integrity of the existing well bore which is already probably compromised. that s exactly what happened with the initial top kill attempt. the safest thing to do is open things back up, connect it to surface vessels, contain it, get a flow rate determination, get the bottom kill intersected with the well with the relief wells and do a bottom kill. the other thing, i mean, we have to remember that their rush to disconnect from the well and to finish the well and cut corners on safety three months ago is what got us into this disaster in the first place, so the last thing we want to do here at this ....
sure, keith. explain if you would why bp says it wants to cut off all the collection on the surface. well, this is a little like watching the first lunar landing. there s a lot of excitement and a lot of anxiety about what could go wrong, certainly. we ll know shortly whether this was a smart idea to try this or a spectacular mistake. one of the decisions they ll have to make is whether or not to leave all the valves shut and shut in the well or whether or not to go ahead and leave them open and pump the oil up to surface vessels. that decision is going to be made based apparently on the pressure readings. and once they start closing the valves. if it looks like the pressure can hold and it s not bleeding out somewhere down in the sea bed, then they re going to leave it shut in. one of the advantages of that, i understand from the engineers, is that doing the bottom kill then is much less probable that it s just going to blow out the top of the well head, which is what happened i ....
