Killeen Councilman, Vietnam vet Jim Kilpatrick dies after battling COVID-19


Killeen City Councilmember Jim Kilpatrick has died after being hospitalized with COVID-19, the city announced Wednesday. Kilpatrick, who earned the Silver Star while serving with the Army in Vietnam, was 74.
Kilpatrick, who died Tuesday, “was elected to represent District 3 on Killeen City Council May 9, 2015 and reelected in 2017 and 2019. He served as Mayor Pro Tem from 2017 to 2019,” according to a news release from the city.
Prior to joining City Council, he served on Killeen Planning and Zoning Commission from 1996 to 2003.
“Mayor Jose Segarra has ordered the City of Killeen Flag to half-staff immediately in honor of Councilman Kilpatrick and his service. Flags will remain at half-staff until the day following interment. Funeral arrangements are pending,” according to the release. ....

'A sad day' — local officials respond to Kilpatrick's death | Local News


In the wake of Tuesday’s death of Killeen City Councilmember Jim Kilpatrick, local officials took the time to share their thoughts.
“It is a sad day,” said John Crutchfield, president of the Greater Killeen Chamber of Commerce. “Jim’s dedication to his family, the U.S. Army and this community was remarkable. His suffering has ended. I pray for him and his family.”
Kilpatrick’s death after battling COVID-19 was announced Wednesday morning by the city.
Scott Cosper, a former state representative, served as Killeen’s mayor from 2014 to 2016, having previously been elected to the council in 2000.
“Jim Kilpatrick was my friend who I had the honor of serving with on the Killeen City Council, as well as working with, and representing, while I served in the Legislature,” Cosper said by telephone. “Jim was a great man who loved his wife and his family. Killeen councilman in hospital with COVID-19


Kilpatrick wrote the following statement:
“PRAYERS NEEDED AND REQUESTED FOR ME, Jim Kilpatrick, I am fighting COVID for the past week in AdventHealth (old Metroplex Hospital). Be strong, pray, back on PPP for couple days, pray I will get ok but I need every one you know to join together in church parks street city hall public building !!!!!!!! Lord listen to these prayers, keep Jim fighting, bring Jim home to his family, community, his fellow mankind where he will continue to be your servant on earth!!! Listen to this pray!!!!”
Killeen Mayor Jose Segarra said on Wednesday afternoon that he had been in touch with Kilpatrick’s daughter, Dawn, and that Kilpatrick had initially been in the Intensive Care Unit but was later moved to the Critical Care Unit. ....
