They, you know, they try to prepare for to anticipate but this type of coordinated attack, you had four commandos. as soon as they recognized what happened, four were killed. these were people who were guarding the airport. and one or two militants, these armed gunmen killed, as well. it is a just flew into this airport yesterday and familiar with this airport. this particular area it sounds like maybe a kilometer or so away from where the commercial passengers travel. this is a 24-hour airport. there are commercial passengers there. there wer people taking off planes, put back into the main lounge area. trying to figure out how to rescue the people, out of the airport right now. you had a huge military and paramilitary surge into the airport for that very purpose. to try to seal the airport and make sure no more damage is done. we don t know at this time whether some of these mill about thes are in the airport, what exactly the status is. there s so much more to find ....

Search area may expand. i want to go to our correspondent live at the search base in perth, australia. mr. michael holmes. what are you hearing about the bluefin s progress? good to see you, don. so far, we know bluefin is on its 14th mission, as you said. we expect word in the next few hours how it s done. of course, it ended after a bit of a software glitch. it was down again pretty quickly and scanning the ocean floor. as you said 95% covered before this mission. we would expect mission 14 will lift that figure to 100% of this current area of focus. confirmation also of what we ve been reporting to you in recent days, don, that the next area to be looked at it adjacent to the current 10 kilometer or six-mile radius around that most promising acoustic sound just north of the current site around where they got the third acoustic sound, what they hoped then and hope now was a ping from one of those black boxes, ....

They re 95% through with the initial search area where the second ping was picked up and they re now searching adjacent areas, presumably searching areas north of that second ping area that would take them in the direction of ping one. this has been the issue for them all along, exactly where was that ping located? they were able to get one sort of trajectory of it but weren t able to hone in on it specifically so now they re going to their next best guess which is go to the area, go toward the area of ping one. wolf? and after that, do they have any plans beyond the next week or two? are they looking long term? or is it all day by day? reporter: well, as they move toward this, presumably they will come up with another plan if they need to launch it in order to do a wider search. keep in mind, it is a 700 kilometer x 80 kilometer, that s a 21,600 mile square mile area that is of interest. they ve only searched about 150 square miles of that. so they ve searched a sliver of ....

Square kilometer of that initial search area examined, you know, i m not really convinced that all hope is lost. you know, i still, let s finish the search effort that is under way now and then we can talk about plan b . you can look at it two ways. on one side, past two-thirds, that supposedly yesterday. and look at air france 447, mary, and that was two years, om ten weeks of searching. david gallo says that s because we took a lot of time in between searches the do the best recognizance we could do before we moved forward. right. and they had the coordinates where they believe the airplane did enter the water. they had debris and three underwater search vehicles. even with all the additional assets and information, it took a long time. so, yeah, i m with shawn. they have barry began the search if you compare it to some of the searches in the past. this is still in a preliminary stage. so it s certainly not hopeless ....

Searching for flight 370 has now started its eighth mission. the bluefin-21 has been scanning the indian ocean for signs of the plane but so far nothing s been found. now there could be a new challenge. now to perth for the latest on the search. reporter: weather could become a factor with a tropical cyclone named jack striking just north of the search area. it s not making a direct impact, but they can expect larger waves and swells over the next three days which may have an impact on the visual search for debris as well as the underwater search of the bluefin-21 which as of this morning was on its eighth mission. not a single sign so far of missing malaysian flight 370. it s managed to cover 50% of this narrowed search area which is based on a 10 kilometer or 6 ....
