FROM OFF THE PACE: Final notes for the 147th running of the Kentucky Derby
It was a weird run-up to the Kentucky Derby. First, more than a third (7 of 20) of the horses who earned the most qualifying points will not be running in the race. Reasons include injury, fatigue, disappointing recent starts and perceived distance limitations.
