A special court of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) here on Wednesday sentenced Fr. Thomas M. Kottoor and Sister Sephy to life imprisonment for the murder of 19-year-old novice Sister Abhaya, who was found dead in a well at Pious X convent of the Knanaya Catholic order in Kottayam in March 1992. ....

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  The CBI Special Court has awarded life sentence to Fr Thomas Kottoor and Sister Sephy in the sensational Sister Abhaya murder case. The Court has also imposed a fine of Rs six-and-a-half lakh on Kottoor and five lakh on Sephy. Fr Kotoor was imposed fine for murder, destruction of evidence and tresspassing while Sr Sephy was imposed fine for murder and destruction of evidence.  ....

Longest Running Murder Investigation Saga In Kerala: 28 Years After A Murder Most Foul, CBI Court Will Deliver Verdict Today On Sister Abhaya Case

Nearly 28 years after Sister Abhaya was murdered and her body dumped inside the well of a Church in Kerala s Kottayam, a CBI court in Thiruvananthapuram is set to deliver its verdict. The court is expected to rule on the matter at 11 am today.
The verdict will be a culmination of the longest running murder investigation saga in Kerala.
Among the accused is Father (Fr) Thomas Kottoor and Knanaya Catholic nun (Sr) Sephy.
Father Thomas Kottoor, who was a Vicar and taught Sister Abhaya psychology at Kottayam s BCM College, was arrested in 2008. He was serving as the Secretary to the then Bishop. He later rose to be Chancellor of the Catholic Diocese in Kottayam. ....

In a 28-year-old case related to the murder of a Catholic nun in Kottayam, a CBI court in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday found two accused priest Thomas Kottoor and nun Sister Sefi guilty. The punishment for the duo in the longest-running investigation will be pronounced by CBI special court judge K Sanal Kumar on Wednesday.
Seventy-one-year-old Kottoor, a scholar in moral theology, is the first accused and 57-year-old Sefi is the third accused in the case.
The state police had initially concluded the 19-year-old nun Sister Abhaya, a student of Kottayam s BCM College, and a member of the Knanaya Catholic community died by suicide on March 27, 1992. This was as she went from her hostel room to the kitchen at around 4.15 AM. ....
