Its been four weeks since he apparently evaded an order to fly back to the us, and made his way to the Demilitarised Zone which separates the two koreas before running to the northern side. Pyongyang has now claimed private king was driven to come to north korea because of inhuman maltreatment and Racial Discrimination while serving in the us army. And the State News Agency goes on to claim that private king has admitted to crossing illegally, and has asked for refuge in the north.
