115 endangered turtles found at Koderma rail station | Ranchi News

KODERMA: Personnel of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) found 115 Indian flapshell turtles in an unclaimed bag at the Koderma railway station on Sunday after they received a tip-off about the smuggling of the reptiles, officials said.
Jawahar Lal, officer-in-charge of RPF police station, said, “No arrests have been made and the turtles have been handed over to the forest department.”
Divisional forest officer Suraj Kumar Singh said, “The range officer has been asked to investigate the matter properly with the help of the railway police. We have to find the smuggling route and the people behind the crime. Our personnel will take proper care of the seized turtles and they will be sent to the nearest habitat for rehabilitation before their release. Indian flapshell turtles are freshwater turtles and are protected under Schedule 1 of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.” ....

Koderma Deputy Commissioner Ramesh Gholap told PTI that six persons were trapped when the roof of the illegal mine caved in on Thursday evening.
Two persons were rescued by local villagers on Thursday night itself. The bodies of four others, including a woman, were taken out of the rubble on Friday.

Koderma HIV patient 'refused leg surgery at Dhanbad, Ranchi hosps' | Ranchi News

Koderma: A 69-year-old HIV positive patient, who is a resident of Jhumari village under Koderma police station, is running from pillar to post to get his fractured leg operated. The sexagenarian, who was diagnosed with HIV about 10 years ago, met with an accident near his village recently leading to fracture on his right leg. He was taken to a private hospital in Dhanbad on January 14 where he was allegedly denied surgery and referred to Rims.
The man said, “The doctor denied surgery because of my HIV status.” His brother later contacted Indrajeet Samanta, a Telaiya-based social worker, for help. On January 18, Samanta along with the patient met Dr L B Manjhi, the head of orthopaedic department in Rims. ....

Jharkhand: Order to Withhold Salaries of Unvaccinated Govt Staffers Withdrawn After Backlash

An order issued by senior health officials of Jharkhand s Koderma district warning government employees not turning up for COVID vaccination of withholding salaries till they were immunised was withdrawn on Sunday after a backlash.
The order, issued by Chief Medical Officer Parvati Kumari Nag and District Immunisation Officer Dr Abhay Bhushan Prasad on Saturday said that the withheld salaries will be released only after the production of vaccination certificates.
Principal Secretary of the Health Department, Nitin Kulkarni confirmed that such an order was issued and it was later withdrawn. Sources said the order was issued after only a few people had turned up at the two vaccination centres in Koderma on Saturday against the administration s target to immunise 100 people at each facility. ....
