(Courtesy Photo) November’s election will feature something not seen in more than three decades in Southold Town: a contested race for town clerk. The Southold Town Democratic Committee announced Monday that Candace Hall, a native of Greenport, has earned the nomination for clerk. Ms. Hall is a small-business owner, licensed insurance broker and former preschool teacher who says she is passionate about ensuring diverse representation for minority children. She said she’s thrilled to bring her positive energy, administrative and management skills and commitment to the community to Town Hall.

Southold Town Democrats announced Tuesday evening that their 2018 Town Supervisor candidate, Greg Doroski, and former Mattituck School Board member Brian Mealy will be their candidates for town board this November. Incumbent town board members Republican Bob Ghosio and Conservative Jim Dinizio have declined to run again, and the Southold GOP ticket will be led by town board candidates Greg Williams, who owns Country Time Cycle in Mattituck, and Sannino Vineyard owner Anthony Sannino. Now, he’s returning to local politics in a run for one of two open seats on the Town Board in November’s election. “I feel called to do the hard work required to preserve the irreplaceable character of our community,” Mr. Doroski said as the Southold Town Democratic Committee announced its slate of candidates at a virtual convention Tuesday.

(Credit: David Benthal) Southold Town’s Republican Committee nominated its slate of candidates Tuesday night, with two business owners set to run for open positions on the Town Board and a new candidate for highway superintendent. Greg Williams of Country Time Cycle in Mattituck and Anthony Sannino of Sannino Vineyard in Cutchogue will run for the open seats on the board now held by Robert Ghosio and James Dinizio, both of whom declined to seek re-election. Mr. Sannino, a former president of the Long Island Wine Council, is making his first run for public office. Mr. Williams is a town trustee, who in the 2017 election for that post was the top vote getter.
