Mondi's Steinfeld plant certified as CO2 neutral

Mondi’s Steinfeld production plant in Germany has been certified as CO2 neutral for its manufacturing processes by ClimatePartner, an organization supporting companies in reducing and offsetting their CO2 emissions.
This certification was awarded as a result of Mondi Steinfeld switching to hydropower and other renewable energy sources in line with specific climate projects implemented in 2020.
Once the plant s total emissions were calculated in 2019, ClimatePartner helped the plant find other ways to reduce and then offset its emissions with climate projects and measures such as switching to hydropower.
As part of this certification, the plant in Steinfeld combined carbon offsetting with participation in several carbon trust projects. These projects engage in local and international reforestation efforts to protect environmentally sensitive regions, such as Brazil and some parts of Europe. Fujifilm Graphic Systems Europe has published an environmental white paper exploring the role of print in a world of net-zero targets and increased environmental awareness.
The EU’s Circular Economy Action Plan outlines a strategy to transform Europe’s economy into a sustainably driven, fully circular economy by 2050. This, along with pressure from increasingly environmentally conscious consumers, means that businesses and brand owners in Europe are being urged to improve environmental practices and reduce waste and carbon emissions.
According to Fujifilm, printed communications and marketing materials are scrutinized as part of this process. Flint Group has launched EkoCure Ancora Dual Cure, a UV-curable ink for food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic labels, as well as flexible packaging applications compliant with indirect food contact regulations.
EkoCure Ancora Dual Cure assures thorough ink anchorage and identical color quality results under LED and mercury lamps, as well as low migration results on both unsupported film and label substrates. These properties have led to its compliance to the Nestlé guidance note on packaging inks (2018), current GMP, the Swiss Ordinance on Materials and Articles (SR 817.023.21), and the EuPIA Exclusion policy, The Plastic Regulation (EU) No 10/2011.
