UK-based Dippon Limited has invested in a Konica Minolta AccurioLabel 230 digital label press to expand its offering and reduce running costs.
Based in the heart of Birmingham city, Dippon Limited services a significant number of small artisan food manufacturers and textile producers. Despite having a solid customer base, the company was finding matching their demands a challenge using conventional letterpress machines alone and had been looking for the right digital press for its needs and budget for a considerable time before choosing Konica Minolta’s AccurioLabel 230.
Dippon Limited’s sales director, Akkshada Shah, said: ‘We recognized the need to move to a digital press to flexibly future-proof our services, but we needed to ensure it was the right product for our business. Avery Dennison's film portfolio receives APR recognition

Avery Dennison’s Machine Direction Orientation (MDO) and Polyethylene (PE) films have been recognized to comply with the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) Critical Guidance for HDPE recycling, and the company’s BOPP and MDO films have been identified to comply with APR Critical Guidance for flexible PE recycling.
Following the earlier APR recognition of the Avery Dennison Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene (BOPP) portfolio, the company becomes the first label manufacturer to offer a complete range of films for brands and converters seeking to enhance the recyclability of rigid HDPE and the first to offer APR recognized films for flexible PE plastics. ....

Herma switches to HermaCoat PCR labels

German self-adhesive technology specialist Herma has switched its label material used to ship material rolls worldwide to HermaCoat. This more sustainable option is made entirely from post-consumer recycled (PCR) fibers.
Herma has conducted a successful large-scale trial on its own behalf and changed the self-adhesive material in its standardized shipping labels for self-adhesive material rolls. The company produces more than one million of these so-called EPSMA roll labels each year.
‘In addition to our primary environmental goal of achieving climate neutrality in 2021, we focus our attention at all times on inconspicuous things, always with the intention of making them even more sustainable,’ commented Dr Ulli Nägele, head of development at Herma’s self-adhesive materials division. ....

Kernow FloorSharK achieves anti-slip R10 rating

Kernow Coatings’ recently launched FloorSharK Dry Toner has passed the R10 slip test after being tried and tested on a Xeikon 3500 digital press opening new market diversification options for label converters.
Hendrik De Backer, EMEA sales manager at Kernow Coatings, said: ‘Our new FloorSharK Dry Toner has performed outstandingly on the Xeikon 3500. We are delighted with the results. The excellent cooperation with Xeikon has led us to this significant point, and we now plan to test the product on Xeikon’s top-performing CX500 dry toner press, where we anticipate similar results. In these challenging times, diversification and adaptation are key. Innovia launches high-speed barrier packaging film

Innovia Films has expanded its Propafilm Strata range of transparent, high barrier, mono structure, packaging films with SLF, a chlorine-free, high-speed film that delivers barrier to oxygen, moisture, aroma, and mineral oils.
SLF has been designed with a wide sealing range in mind making it suitable for high-speed horizontal-form-fill-seal packaging of biscuits, bakery, and confectionery type products.
Alasdair McEwen, global product manager for packaging at Innovia Films, said: ‘With SLF, we have been able to develop a totally new barrier film that not only has outstanding oxygen and aroma barrier but also has enhanced moisture barrier over standard polypropylene films. This means that there is an opportunity to increase product shelf life and therefore reduce food waste. It is the perfect replacement for PVdC coated films. ....
