There s no lake in Woodlake anymore. The pair of golf courses that drew residents and visitors alike to this gated Moore County community are overgrown with tumbles of long, brown grass, the holes marked by metal signs that serve as a relic of what nature and neglectful owners took away. Woodlake has seen better days, but there s hope for the future. That hope started around two years ago when a group of residents, frustrated over the prior property owners lack of attention and investment, saw the need for a place for the community to gather and knew if they wanted to see it happen, they d have to take it into their own hands. ....
VASS After years of controversy, the Moore County community of Woodlake is looking toward a new future. Woodlake was recently bought out of foreclosure by Fayetteville businessman Keith Allison, CEO of Systel Business Equipment. His company, Atlantic National Capital, purchased the mortgage for $3.5 million. If no higher offers come through, Allison said Atlantic National Capital could have sole ownership of Woodlake by Monday, including the dam, two golf courses, lakebed and 500 lots that could be developed with houses. For 14-year Woodlake resident Charlie Jones, it s a welcome change. “It’s a new day,” Jones said. “I mean, it s a, not quite a blank slate … but it is the most positive circumstance that Woodlake has been in for many, many, many years.” ....
