Lansdale Human Relations Commission asking for 2021 budget


LANSDALE — They may not have made many headlines lately, but Lansdale s Human Relations Commission members have been hard at work. 
Borough council heard an update from that commission recently, including their first-ever request for taxpayer dollars, and what they can do with those funds.
We just recently submitted a budget proposal for the remainder of 2021, and we re looking forward to council reviewing, and hopefully approving, that budget, said HRC chairperson Aurelia Henry.

Lansdale s Human Relations Commission was created in August 2018 to field and rule on complaints regarding discrimination due to gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation, and commission members were appointed at the end of that year. What would happen if a vehicle crashed into a train in downtown Lansdale? Numerous Montgomery County first responders literally got a crash course Sunday as part of a training exercise staged by SEPTA and area municipalities. “It represents something we have to be prepared for,” said RJ Snyder, assistant chief of the Lansdale Fairmount Fire Company. “Hopefully it won’t be a terrorist event, but there could be other train accidents or derailments that could happen that we’d have to respond to.” ....

Skaters to host donation drive for code blue shelter


LANSDALE — This winter s Code Blue shelter season appears to finally be over, and a local group of volunteers are already looking ahead to next winter.
Members of Lansdale s skatepark community are planning a Skater-Aid donation drive on May 22 to collect much-needed items, and one of Lansdale s most recognizable figures will be there.
We chose the Code Blue shelter because we wanted to ensure the community rallied together to prepare Trinity Lutheran for the colder months of the year, as they are in the midst of organizing collection efforts now, for the winter, said organizer Ryan Weiss.

Weiss, a marketing manager with Round Guys Brewing, said he and Annie Christ were looking for a way to give back to the community. ....
