South korea retaliates against them. i don t want to see anything bad happen to the civilians of south korea. i don t want to see anything bad happens to the civilians in the united states either. sean: well-said ambassador and i agree wholeheartedly with you. a do we know if we see a missile on a pad and one that couldal reach the continentalny united states, any part of the united states or guam do we know if that missile is loaded with anything? we can only guess. the north koreans are very close to being able to switch from liquid fuel to solid fuel, that means time on launchpad, preparation time will be dramatically reduced. i thought it was significant in this launch over japan, i have not heard that any missile defense capability of ours, south korea or japan tried to engage this missile. i think that may demonstrate to the north koreans unfortunately just how weak america s national missile defense capabilities are after eight years of savage obama administration budget cut ....

Hold back and fire in another direction? i think they could have reached guam, but firing at the territory of an american treaty ally shouldn t make us feel any better. i was and still am curious to note there does not appear to have been any effort by any missile defense systems, u.s., japanese, or south korean to engage this missile. that may be because we didn t have any and could have hit it, but this goes to what is increasingly going to be a conundrum for the united states and its allies. you see a ballistic missile on a north korean launchpad, perhaps in a year we would know it could reach the united states, or you going to bet what direction it is headed in, are you going to bet it doesn t have a nuclear warhead under the nose cone in the reentry vehicle, are you going to bet it is a peaceful satellite launch, or will you take action? which is why, i stress again, it is not warmongering to look at the military options sooner ....

Placed over north korea because of all this action. you ll probably get all kinds of satellites, maybe some planes, maybe a lot of high-level drones watching them 24 hours a day. when a heat signature goes off, you re immediately going to pick it up off the launchpad, off the truck that it s fired from, and there are going to be multiple layers of air defense from korea, through japan, through the pacific, to guam. it isn t going to be like a catcher s mitt at guam waiting for the missile to come in and hit it right before it strikes. you also have land-based and thaad missiles and naval base missiles. you ll pick those things up. i would say there s a pretty good chance that none of those missiles are going to land unintended with some kind of casualty, or strike against them, a kinetic strike against them. but if you only get one through, it s traumatic. but going back to what both john and phil just said, you know, it s all about choices. how do you pull them away from this, and why ....

Nuclear test, china and russia putting their military might on display looking to catch washington s attention. is the time for talk over? rebecca heinrich, thank you for joining us. let s begin with the latest north korean missile launch, the longest in the history of the rogue regime, 2300 miles into space, took 45 minutes. what are your thoughts on that? north korean this have been trying to perfect this capability for many years and whenever something happens, it blows up on the launchpad, there has been something in the think tank world or the intelligence community that says they are not that good at building rockets. every time they have a failed test they take the technology and apply them and get it right the next time so we have been watching them march towards this capability. now they have the capability many of us believe to reach the entire united states, ....

Spot is that we re talking about tunnels here, we re talking about mobile launchers, we re talking about launchers that now missiles launched with solid state fuel, not liquid fuel, so they re not on the launchpad for so long. let me pause it, it is hard to target them, hard to take them out or know we re getting everything out. china may know more than we do. but we don t know a whole lot about what is happening underground. leaving that all i can say, andrea, is that you re correct. thank you for that. you re welcome. let s talk about russia, because the president has yet to sign the sanctions bill. it was a veto proof majority, 98-2 in the senate, he doesn t have a whole lot of choices here and vice president pence has been giving very strong, explicit speeches in estonia, in georgia, as he travels around the region. is there any question about what the president needs to do on the russia sanctions? no. and i think what vice president ....
