Total makeover planned for Port Huron diner

It's a new name and a new look for an iconic downtown Port Huron diner that has been shuttered for nearly two years. Earlier this week, Chris Smith received approval from the Port Huron Historic and Planning Commissions to renovate and put an addition on the Cavis Grill building at 401 Quay Street. Speaking to WPHM's Paul Miller, Smith described his new bar and restaurant as being nautical themed and unveiled a new name. "We're going to call it Lazy Jack's Hideaway," said Smith. "We're a nautical town, a Lazy Jack is a rope on the main sail of a boat." Plans call for a two story addition to be added to the east side of the building along Michigan Avenue with outdoor seating on the roof as well as along Quay Street. Smith says he still anticipates offering breakfast as well as an upscale lunch and dinner menu. He is also in pursuit of a license to serve alcohol.
