Andree Kehn/Sun Journal AUBURN — The Maine Gladiators youth hockey organization is sending two teams to the Tier II USA Hockey National Championships next week. The U19 Gladiators girls team will be heading to Denver, Colorado for the U19 Tier II tournament while the Gladiators 14U boys team will head to Dallas, Texas for the 14U Tier II tournament. Both tournaments run April 29-May 3. The U19 team has been placed in the 2A Division. They will take on the North Shore Warhawks (Illinois) and Northern Michigan K-Stars (Michigan) in pool play. The 14U team was also placed in the 2A Division and will take on the Manchester Flames (New Hampshire) and Team South Dakota.

Seven different players scored as the Blue Devils defeated Edward Little/Leavitt/Poland 8-0 at Norway Savings Bank Arena on Saturday night. Madison Conley had two goals and three assists. “In a situation like this in the last game of the year, kids press, they want some recognition but I didn’t see anyone pass up pass opportunities,” Lewiston coach Ron Dumont said. “So, they did a real good job of that. It was good our two senior starters Brie Dube and Madison Conley (scored). That’s really nice.”

Andree Kehn/Sun Journal LEWISTON — Wednesday’s rubber match between Lewiston and St. Dominic Academy/Gray-New Gloucester/Winthrop was all Blue Devils. Lily Gish and Leah Landry each had two goals for the Blue Devils. “I think we learned it was a team effort and we learned we need to work together,” Lewiston defenseman Lily Gish said. “Obviously, they are one of our biggest rivals; it’s good to (beat them) by a couple of goals.”
Red Hornets coach Dana Berube said Horton did well for a goalie playing her first career game. “We have girl in net who has eight practices in her life,” Berube said of Horton. “Quite honestly, I thought she made some good saves … some rebound shots fell right to (Lewiston). She has a great attitude and she will continue to improve. This year is more about our seniors and girls who will be contributing the next a couple of years.” Sophomore Leah Dube led Lewiston’s offense with a hat trick, and Rebecca Lussier contributed two goals and an assist. Brie Dube opened up the scoring in first period for Lewiston (1-1), slipping the puck past Horton four minutes into the contest.
