Grand Ledge picks 'rising star' Marcus Davenport as next superintendent

Board members voted unanimously to make Davenport the district's next leader during a meeting Wednesday night. He is currently the superintendent of Beecher Community Schools north of Flint.
Davenport was picked from a group of three finalists, including Hazel Park School District Superintendent Amy Kruppe and Steven Gabriel, Grand Ledge Public Schools' assistant superintendent of human resources and operations.
Each trustee expressed difficulty picking between the three candidates. But Davenport's "infectious energy" made him stand out to Board of Education President Sara Clark Pierson.
“Sometimes it’s the tone at the top that makes all the difference and he has an undeniable fire," she said.
