More memories from the pen of Jeff Dunn

Hi Jeff.I have read your article on Castle Hall in the
Western Telegraph.
My great-grandfather worked for them at Castle Hall (St Brides).
He and his wife, the Sharlands, moved there from Kent (I think that s where the nuns came from) to live at Blackbridge Cottage and this is where my maternal grandmother was born in 1914.
When the nuns left, my great-grandfather began a horticultural business which makes me think he may have been gardener at Castle Hall. They left Blackbridge and moved to Tenby.
I would be grateful for any info. Many thanks.
Thanks for getting in touch Penny, and having recalled that Milford s Martin Rowland once wrote a fantastic article about Castle Hall, I ve extracted this relevant snippet from the ....

Jeff Dunn says That Reminds Me with more Milford Haven RNAD memories

Following up the recent letter I received from The Old Man, which, among other things, mentioned the Milford Docks policemen.
I ve had this bit of feedback from my old school chum, Graham Clarke, who sent this e-mail.
Hi Jeff...just a short note about Docks policemen.
Stan Jones and I spent every spare minute on the docks, and were welcomed everywhere by the men who worked there. The police always seemed to patrol in twos. The police station was at the docks entrance at the bottom of the Doctors Hill.
The only person not to welcome us was Sgt Farmer. If we saw him it was a matter of running and hiding. Our favourite hiding place was to climb up underneath the old mackerel stage. Once hidden, it was impossible to be seen from above or below. Luckily he did not patrol very often, and I don t think we ever got caught. ....

Jeff Dunn takes another nostalgic look back at Milford Haven's past

Back in the mid-seventies I wrote some stuff for an HTV film which included the line: Photographs are just memories, captured on a screen, and the snaps I include in these TRMs undoubtedly prove my point.
Here are some of your memories received following last week s pictures. Firstly - re the Milford Fishmarket snap: From Nicky Lovell (via WT online) My dad started as a box runner at 15, and still worked the docks til he was 68.
Ann Davies (WT online) Remember going there with my Grampy.
Christian April Smart (WT online) Wonder if my grandfather Bobby Whisby is in the photograph. ....

More memories from Milford Haven's Jeff Dunn - That Reminds Me

Like this one from Lynne Woods (was Giles) which came via the Western Telegraph on-line.
How wonderful to read your stories ! Bringing back wonderful memories of my childhood in Milford Haven. I have always felt blessed to have been brought up there. Remembering Backhouse s Music Shop. I loved music.
I see Mac Wooton s name mentioned. I knew Mac. If anybody knows where he is I would love to get in touch.
Thank you again for the wonderful memories.
Thanks, Lynne.
And on Facebook, Andrew Norman commented: Re the Milford Beach photograph. Top left-hand building - Murray Crescent House, later on owned by G S Kelway. I worked there for 20 years with GSK. ....
