60-year UF Health Jacksonville worker recognized among longtime staff
Cecil Louise Wright was a Brewster baby. Almost 80 years ago she was born at Jacksonville's old Brewster Hospital, a medical facility for African Americans founded in 1901. At age 19 she returned there to work while attending Edward Waters College and has since been an employee at each of Brewster's successor hospitals — Duval County Hospital, Methodist Medical Center and University Medical Center, which merged with Gainesville-based Shands Healthcare in 1999 and in 2013 was renamed UF Health Jacksonville.
