The winner of this year s Hawke s Bay Today photo competition, Juan Camilo Linares Lopez, hadn t been into photography until arriving in New Zealand less than two years ago.
But after 18 months of capturing breathtaking landscapes across the region, Lopez has been crowned the winner of the Hawke s Bay Today, Canon NZ and Harvey Norman Hastings summer photo competition.
The 28-year-old s winning picture is of friend Hyeomah Na riding a bicycle along a track in the Waitangi Regional Park at sunrise. ....

Fewer students are showing up to class as schools continue virtual learning, according to data from PowerSchool.
Districts reported a more than 2% drop in daily attendance in the fall of 2020 from the previous year. Data shows that monthly attendance kept dropping by more than 1%.
Experts in public education say the change in settings is particularly affecting students who were already marginalized. That includes students of color, students with special needs, and even elementary school aged children.
Schools are now having to find ways to help those students who are not showing up to virtual learning. That includes making calls or even showing up at students homes to see what problems they re facing. ....

Cruise ships may continue to delay a return to sailings, but one line is confident there is still an appetite for travel on the horizon after its flagship Around the World in 180 Days itinerary sold out in less than a day.
While the date of departure is still two years away, the Oceania Line takes it as an encouraging sign that a return to cruising is still in demand.
