Dutch carmaker Lightyear is temporarily shifting its focus away from producing solar-powered cars. This was confirmed on Tuesday by the company's CEO and co-founder, Lex Hoefsloot, following reports from Het Financieele Dagblad. The Helmond-based company will now prioritize the manufacture of solar panels for electric vehicles.

The company says it has raised enough capital to continue working on its second model, the much more affordable Lightyear 2, which is supposed to have a starting price of around $40,000 in the United States.
Solar car maker Lightyear from Helmond is making a restart in a slimmed-down form. The bankruptcy administrator will be selling some of the stocks of the previously bankrupt company in the near future. That includes some (demo) vehicles of the first Lightyear 0 model. This month, there is a special online auction to raise money for paying the company’s creditors. On a viewing day on Wednesday, April 19, interested parties can come and see the cars in person, bankruptcy administrator Reinoud van Oeijen said.
