ANN ARBOR, MI Ann Arbor OK’d plans for the city’s first marijuana consumption lounge this past week, and it could be the first of over two dozen like it in the city.
“We are going to allow 28,” said City Planner Alexis DiLeo, citing a cap in the city’s regulations.
When City Council decided in October 2019 to give the green light to the recreational marijuana industry in the city, it limited the number of permits for marijuana micro-businesses, dispensaries and consumption centers to 28 each.

Here is that headline and some more you might have missed this week.
Ann Arbor is getting its first commercial marijuana consumption lounge and officials say it also will be the first of its kind in Michigan.
Plans are in the works to convert the pink house at 336 S. Ashley St. next to the Liberty Provisioning Center marijuana dispensary on the west edge of downtown into a lounge allowing onsite consumption of cannabis products.
Ann Arbor Opens Michigan’s First Marijuana Consumption Lounge
The Ann Arbor city Planning Commission approved a special-exception use permit for this new lounge which will permit on site use of cannabis products. They want to convert the pink house at 336 S. Ashley Street, next to Liberty Provisioning Center into a lounge. This will be a first for our state.
The building being converted used to be a single family home that was converted to commercial use a long time ago. Formerly a clothing store, it will now be a marijuana lounge. They want it to be a community oriented location where people can socialize. The thought is to provide a safe place for people who may want to experiment with cannabis products, in an environment where others can help educate them on the proper use of the products.
