Taipei, April 8 (CNA) Taiwan s Ministry of the Interior on Thursday suggested the main opposition Kuomintang (KMT) should change its party emblem to avoid a high degree of similarity with the country s national emblem.
In a keynote report submitted to the Legislature s Internal Administration Committee, the ministry urged the KMT to alter its emblem as times have changed, so as to help the public distinguish between the two, given that it is easier to change a party emblem than the national emblem of the Republic of China (Taiwan). ....

New China affairs head choice shows goodwill to Beijing : scholar

Taipei, Feb. 20 (CNA) The appointment of Chiu Tai-san (邱太三) to handle China affairs should be seen as a friendly gesture toward Beijing, as Chiu is known to be dovish in his approach to cross-strait issues, Taiwanese scholar Chao Chun-shan (趙春山) said Friday.
Chao s comment came after the Presidential Office named three new Cabinet-level officials, including the head of the Mainland Affairs Council (MAC), Taiwan s China relations body, that day.
Chiu has previously held the number-two role in the council and has a high degree of familiarity with the legal systems of both Taiwan and China, Chao, a professor from the Institute of China Studies at Tamkang University, told CNA. ....
