India: Vedanta Copper plant that once contributed 40% of national demand, up for sale

Vedanta Limited, a metals and mining conglomerate issued an advertisement on Monday, saying that its Sterlite Copper Smelter in Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu is up for sale. Mentioning that the plant facilities included a Refinery, Copper Rod Plant, 160MW captive power plant, Sulphuric Acid plant, phosphoric acid plant and a residential colony etc, the parent company Vedanta invited Expression of Interest from prospective buyers. This announcement gains significance because of the chequered history of this facility, which had been operating in Southern India.

Indian Railways delivers 200 tonnes of liquid medical oxygen to Bangladesh amid COVID-19 pandemic
The Railways delivered a consignment of 200 tonnes of liquid medical oxygen (LMO) on a 10-container Oxygen Express train to Bangladesh on July 25.
“Neighbourhood First delivers again. Oxygen Express from India arrives in Bangladesh,” tweeted External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.

This will be the first time that the Oxygen Express is put into operation to deliver the life-saving gas to a neighbouring country, the Ministry of Railways said in a statement.

शेजारी देशांच्या मदतीसाठी भारताने नेहमीच पुढाकार घेतला आहे. कोरोना महामारीच्या अवघड स्थितींमध्ये भारताने आता बांगलादेशला मदत केली आहे. ऑक्सिजन एक्स्प्रेस ट्रेनद्वारे भारतीय रेल्वे 200 टन लिक्विड मेडिकल ऑक्सिजनची खेप रविवारी बांगलादेशात पोहोचविणार आहे. या मदतीमुळे बांगलादेशला कोरोनाविरोधातील लढाईकरता बळ मिळणार आहे.
हा जीवनरक्षक वायू देशाबाहेर पाठविला जाण्याची ही पहिलीच वेळ आहे. झारखंडच्या टाटानगरमधून 10 कंटेनर असलेली ही रेल्वे शनिवारी रवाना झाली आहे. ही रेल्वे आज बांगलादेशच्या बेनापोल येथे पोहोचण्याची शक्यता आहे. भारतात महामारीच्या दुसऱया लाटेदरम्यान राज्यांमधील ऑक्सिजनच तुटवडा दूर करण्यासाठी रेल्वेने ऑक्सिजन एक्स्प्रेस ही सेवा सुरू केली होती. एकेवेळी मेडिकल ऑक्सिजनची मागणी 9 हजार टन प्रतिदिनाच्या नजीक पोहोचली होती. रेल्वेने 24 एप्रिल रोजी या मोहिमेची सुरुवात केल्यापासून आतापर्यंत अशा 480 रेल्वेफेऱयांचे आयोजन केले आहे. देशाच्या विविध हिस्स्यांमध्ये रेल्वेने 38,841 टन ऑक्सिजन पोहोचविला आहे.

पहिल्या लॉकडाऊनमधील कटू अनुभवातून धडा घेत राज्याच्या उद्योग विभागाने दुसऱ्या लॉकडाऊनमध्ये दमदार कामगिरी केली. राज्याचे औद्योगिक उत्पादन ९० टक्क्यांहून अधिक सामान्य राहिले. दोन्ही लॉकडाऊनमध्ये १ लाख कोटीहून अधिक गुंतवणुकीचे सामंजस्य करार झाले. नवीन उद्योगांच्या स्वागतासाठी ४० हजार एकर जागेवर “रेड कार्पेट’ अंथरण्यात आले आहे.
पहिल्या लॉकडाऊनमध्ये अत्यावश्यक श्रेणीतील उद्योगांनाच परवानगी, परप्रांतीय मजुरांची कमतरता, वाहतूक बंदी, कच्च्या मालाचा तुटवडा आणि तयार माल पोहोचवण्यासाठी झालेला खोळंबा यामुळे उद्योग क्षेत्र होरपळून निघाले. दुसऱ्या लाॅकडाऊनमध्ये चोख नियोजन केल्याने उद्योग चक्र गतिमान राहिले.
एप्रिल ठरला तेजीचा
राष्ट्रीय सर्वेक्षण खात्याच्या आकडेवारीनुसार गेल्या वर्षी एप्रिलच्या तुलनेत यंदा एप्रिलमध्ये औद्योगिक उत्पादनात सरासरी १३४.४४ टक्के वाढ झाली. खाण क्षेत्रात १०८, उत्पादन क्षेत्रात १२५.१ तर इलेक्ट्रिकल मॅन्युफॅक्चरिंग क्षेत्रात १७४ टक्के वाढ नोंदवली गेली आहे. उर्वरित. पान १०
४० हजार एकर जागा राखीव
नवीन उद्योगांसाठी मुंबई-ठाणे-रायगड येथे १५,००० एकर, पुणे-चाकण-तळेगाव-सातारा येथे ८००० एकर, नाशिक-मालेगाव-अहमदनगर येथे ५००० एकर, औरंगाबाद डीएमआयसी-जालना येथे ८००० एकर, तर नागपूर-अमरावती येेथे ४००० एकर अशी सुमारे ४० हजार एकर जागा तयार करण्यात आली आहे.
‘मिशन ऑक्सिजन स्वावलंबना’स आले यश
राज्याची प्राणवायू निर्मितीची क्षमता दररोज १३०० मे.टन असून दुसऱ्या लाटेत १८०० मे. टनची मागणी होती. संभाव्य तिसऱ्या लाटेत ती दररोज ५०० टन वाढू शकते. विद्यमान १८०० टन आणि तिसऱ्या लाटेसाठी ५०० टन अशा २३०० टन ऑक्सिजनची दररोज गरज पडेल. ती पूर्ण करतानाच भविष्यात कमतरता भासू नये यासाठी राज्याने ३००० मे.टन ऑक्सिजन उत्पादनाचे उद्दिष्ट ठेवत ‘मिशन ऑक्सिजन स्वावलंबन’ हाती घेतले आहे. या अंतर्गत लिक्विड मेडिकल ऑक्सिजनचे नवीन प्रकल्प तसेच जुन्याच्या विस्तारीकरणासाठी विशेष सवलती देण्यात आल्या आहेत.
१.१३ लाख कोटींचे करार
मॅग्नेटिक महाराष्ट्र २.० अंतर्गत एमआयडीसी आणि १५ कंपन्यांमध्ये ३४,८५० कोटी रुपयांच्या गुंतवणुकीचे सामंजस्य करार करण्यात आले. दुसऱ्या टप्प्यात २९ उद्योगांसोबत ५१,८९७ कोटींचे, तर तिसऱ्या टप्प्यात १४ हजार कोटी रुपयांचे सामंजस्य करार झाले. पहिल्या लॉकडाऊनपासून १,१२,९३९ कोटी रुपयांची गुंतवणूक राज्यात येण्याचा मार्ग खुला झाला.
लॉकडाऊनमधील शुभ संकेत
परळीतील सिरसाळा येथे ३५ हेक्टर जमिनीवर एमआयडीसीची उभारणी करण्यास मंजुरी.
रायगड जिल्ह्यात मुरूड, रोहा तालुक्यात ३० हजार कोटींच्या बल्क ड्रग पार्क प्रकल्पाला वेग.
अमेरिकेतील जेबिल कंपनीची रांजणगाव, तळेगावात २ हजार कोटी गुंतवणुकीची तयारी.
फ्रान्सच्या टोटल एनर्जीजची औरंगाबादेत बायोगॅस प्रकल्प उभारण्यासाठी चाचपणी.
विदेशी गुंतवणुकीत वाढ
दोन्ही लॉकडाऊनमध्ये उद्याेगचक्र अबाधित राहिले. सोबत नवीन गुंतवणूकदार आकर्षित झाले. त्यांनी दाखवलेल्या विश्वासामुळे भविष्यात आणखी कंपन्या आकर्षित होतील. विदेशी गुंतवणूक वाढून रोजगार निर्माण होतील. - सुभाष देसाई, उद्योगमंत्री, महाराष्ट्र
