Body found along Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway


 
OTTAWA
Ottawa police have reopened a section of the Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway following the discovery of a body.
Police said in a tweet that a passerby found the body Tuesday afternoon. It is unclear if foul play was involved in the person s death. The coroner s office attended the scene shortly after the discovery was made.
The investigation is ongoing.
An eastbound section of the parkway was closed late Tuesday afternoon but reopened Tuesday night.

Riders return to OC Transpo buses, trains as lockdown ends

OC Transpo has seen a bump in ridership since the end of the COVID-19 lockdown and Ottawa s move to the orange-restrict zone one month ago.
The Transit Commission was told Wednesday morning that ridership on buses and the O-Train is at 27 per cent of pre-pandemic levels in March, up from 22 per cent in February.
In January, ridership was at 18 per cent of pre-pandemic levels during the stay-at-home order and no in-person classes in schools.
We ve seen ridership growing very quickly since schools returned to on-site learning and since the stay-at-home order ended, said Pat Scrimgeour, director of Transit Customer Systems and Planning. ....

McDonnell adds, “Any animal is good. I’d love to meet a bunny or anything.”
Word is spreading about this too. McDonnell says more and more people are stopping by with their furry friends and the co-pilot customers are all for it.
“The dogs obviously really love coming here and getting their puppuccinos,” says customer Abby Hennessey. “So I just think it’s great that you get to see other dogs that get to come through.”
Customer Jessica Vermette also loves the idea.
“I love seeing all the dogs in the drive-thru. Super sweet. Brings a little happiness to your day.” ....

'Free store' has diverted more than four tonnes of waste from Cornwall landfill site since November

A new initiative from the City of Cornwall is helping to divert tonnes of waste from its landfill site. Salvageable items can be picked up for free and given at a second chance at life.
At the Cornwall landfill, a blue shipping container is adorned with a sign saying the free store , where items such as furniture and cookware sit waiting for a new home.
We have a lot of kids toys that come through here, furniture, coffee tables, end tables, dressers, filing cabinets, desks, all kinds of stuff, said Dave Kuhn, Waste Management Supervisor for the City of Cornwall. ....

$50M Lotto Max jackpot ticket sold in Perth County area

The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) says the winning $50 million Lotto Max jackpot ticket for March 16 was sold somewhere in Perth County .
You can check tickets from home on OLG.ca, by using the OLG Lottery App, or by calling the OLG Win Line toll free at 1-866-891-8946 (outside the Toronto area; call 416-870-8946 in the Toronto area)
OLG also said the second prize winning ticket worth $279,418.40 was sold in Hamilton and an Encore ticket worth $100,000 was sold in Pickering.

A previous version of this story mistakenly said the ticket was sold in the Perth, Ont. area near Ottawa. It was sold in Perth County, near London, Ont. ....
