A COVID-19 March Break in Quebec

Students in Ontario have had their March Break delayed until April in a bid to quell any potential COVID-19 outbreaks.
In Quebec, students and families are wrapping up the week of vacation, and despite the COVID-19 restrictions, many are making the most of their time off.
The Quebec break is a popular time for travel. For Mithis Neumann and his family, they would typically be somewhere abroad for a week s vacation.
Leaving the country is not possible this year due to COVID-19 restrictions, so instead they will travel through time at the Canadian Museum of History.
Last year was the Caribbean, the year before Asia, says Neumann. It s a different approach to the vacation we usually take but it s interesting. ....

Some Ottawa landlords struggle amid high vacancy rates

Daniela Mello is a small landlord.
She rents out six units across Ottawa to fund her retirement. Currently, half of them sit empty.
I never had vacancies before, Mello said.
Before the pandemic, Mello said her units rarely sat empty between tenants.
Days like five days, she said.
Now, it’s been months without a tenant.
I’ve had to pull money out of my savings to keep the properties going, Mello said.
Data from the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation estimates Ottawa’s vacancy rate at roughly three to four per cent, about one per cent higher than average. ....

Ottawa man charged with sexual assault at east-end Tim Hortons: Ottawa police

OTTAWA
A 22-year-old man has been charged with a sexual assault that allegedly occurred while he was an acting manager at an Ottawa Tim Hortons.
Police say a person under the age of 18 was sexually assaulted at the east-end restaurant. The investigation involved incidents that allegedly happened between July and October.
Sahilpreet Singh is charged with one count of sexual assault and one count of sexual exploitation.
Invesatigators believe there are other victims.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Ottawa Police Service Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 5944.

COVID-19 vaccinations begin for the general public in Ottawa

OTTAWA
Ottawa s COVID-19 vaccination campaign ramped up on Friday, as the city began vaccinating residents 80 and older in high-risk neighbourhoods.
Mayor Jim Watson tweeted John Biro received the first vaccine delivered at a community clinic just before 10 a.m.
