The prospect of proceeds of crime being kept within the community for the improvement of local safety schemes has been welcomed by Superintendent Seamus Boyle who has been pushing for CCTV to be installed in the Granard District for some time.
Minister for Justice Helen McEntee announced last week that she and Minister for Public Expenditure Michael McGrath have agreed, in principle, to establish the fund, which will see proceeds of Garda and CAB raids funding projects that the communities themselves know will improve their safety.
