Fitch’s assessment stands to reason given the constraints imposed on the country’s potential by the government
3 May 2022 - South Africa has been ranked 75th out of 84 jurisdictions on the Fraser Institute’s 2021 Annual Survey of Mining Companies. This means that the sector is amongst the least attractive places in the world for mining investment.
21 April 2022 - While SA cannot control global events, the government can make the correct, albeit difficult, policy choices that would lessen some of the negative effects of higher inflation in coming months (“IMF report all but warns of stagflation,” April 21). 20 April 2022 - In the context of rising global inflation, sticky supply chains, the war in Ukraine and higher fuel prices, poor-to-middle income South African consumers are battered from all sides.
12 April 2022 - Speaking at the Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment conference on April 1, Minister of Trade, Industry, and Competition Ebrahim Patel said that hopes to grow the economy sustainably were being undermined by short-sighted (in his view) legal challenges to the government’s BEE policies.
