The Uttar Pradesh government on May 3 extended the COVID-induced lockdown in the state by two more days till 7 am of Thursday ( May 6). 
It is to be noted that the restrictions imposed by the state government were slated to be lifted on May 4 but the curbs will now remain in place till May 6, 7 AM. “The corona curfew from Friday 8 pm to Tuesday 7 am has been extended for 48 hours. Now it will continue till May 6 till 7 am,” Additional Chief Secretary, Information, Navneet Sehgal said. Sehgal added that the arrangement is for this week only.

In a significant development, Uttar Pradesh government has decided to extend the partial 'corona curfew' till 7 AM on May 10, said ACS Information Navneet Sehgal.
Earlier, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath-led government in Uttar Pradesh had decided to extend the COVID-19 curfew till May 6, 7 AM. “The corona curfew from Friday 8 pm to Tuesday 7 am has been extended for 48 hours. Now it will continue till May 6 till 7 am,” Additional Chief Secretary, Information, Navneet Sehgal had said.

All shops and establishments will now remain closed till Monday 7am.

Amid rising Covid-19 cases in the state, Yogi Adityanath led Uttar Pradesh government has decided to implement lockdown from 30 April evening to 4 May morning.
“Lockdown in the state will now remain imposed from Friday evenings to 7 am on Tuesdays. The decision has been taken in the wake of Covid-19 situation,”

India’s most populous state Uttar Pradesh has reported more than 29 thousand cases in the last 24 hours. The state is just behind Maharashtra, Karnataka and Kerala in the number of cases reported.

LUCKNOW: Amid a surge in coronavirus cases, the Uttar Pradesh government Thursday decided to increase the duration of weekend lockdown by 24 hours, announcing that it will now cover Mondays too.
"The weekend closure will now be applicable from Friday 8 pm till Tuesday 7 am," Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Navneet Sehgal said here.
He said that consequent to the decision, all shops and establishments will now remain closed between Friday 8 pm and Tuesday 7 am.
Presently, the weekend lockdown in the state begins at Friday 8 pm and ends at Monday 7 am.

There will be a weekly closure in all rural and urban areas of the state on Sunday, an official statement said quoting chief minister Yogi Adityanath.
NEW DELHI: Amid rising cases of coronavirus in Uttar Pradesh, the state government today announced a lockdown across the state on Sunday.
To enforce the wearing of masks, the government also doubled the fine to Rs 1,000 for those caught without masks for the first time. The next time if the person is caught without a mask, the fine will be 10 times.
"There will be a weekly closure in all rural and urban areas of the state on Sunday. Only sanitation, sanitisation and emergency services will operate during this period. Necessary awareness works should also be done in this regard," an official statement said quoting chief minister Yogi Adityanath.

LUCKNOW: All schools in Uttar Pradesh will be closed till May 15 while board exams for classes 10 and 12 have been postponed till May 20 in view of rising COVID-19 cases, the state government said on Thursday.
The new dates for the board examinations will be decided in the first week of May, an official said.
"Schools up to class 12 are being closed till May 15 and no examinations will also be held during this period. Also, UP board examinations for classes 10 and 12 have been postponed till May 20," the official said.
The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Covid-19’s ability to spread is getting attention again. One of the parameters of transmission, referred to as R or the reproduction number, suggests the pandemic might be growing faster in Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Bihar.
After tracking the daily new cases of the last two weeks, the effective reproduction number for Uttar Pradesh is estimated at 2.14, followed by Jharkhand (2.13) and Bihar (2.09).
That means one infected person, on an average, infects more than two people in UP, Jharkhand and the neighbouring Bihar.

Thackeray to meet officials as Covid-19 cases rise; Mumbai faces curbs


Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray will on Friday meet senior civil servants to discuss the state’s spurt in Covid-19 cases, said news agency ANI.
The state on Thursday reported 43,183 new Covid-19 cases and 249 deaths, making the numbers the highest one-day rise since the pandemic began. It was the state’s highest number of deaths since October.
Mayor Kishori Pednekar on Thursday said that Mumbai may announce restrictions from April 2, claiming "people do not listen" to safety precautions. Hotels could be asked to operate at 50 per cent seating capacity and religious places might be shut completely.
Mumbai reported 8,646 cases of Covid-19 on Thursday, making it the highest one-day spike since the pandemic hit the city early last year. The city reported 18 deaths in the last 24 hours.

Global Covid-19 caseload tops 120 mn, death toll surge past 2.65 million


The overall number of global Covid-19 cases has surpassed the grim milestone of 120 million as the pandemic is still raging, while the deaths have surged to more than 2.65 million, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
In its latest update on Tuesday morning, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed that the current global caseload and death toll stood at 120,180,835 and 2,659,623, respectively.
The US is the worst-hit country with the world's highest number of cases and deaths at 29,492,616 and 535,596, respectively, according to the CSSE.
Brazil follows in the second place with 11,519,609 cases and 279,286 fatalities.
The other countries with more than a million confirmed coronavirus cases are India (11,385,339), Russia (4,350,728), the UK (4,276,840), France (4,132,104), Italy (3,238,394), Spain (3,195,062), Turkey (2,894,893), Germany (2,585,385), Colombia (2,305,884), Argentina (2,201,886), Mexico (2,166,290), Poland (1,917,527), Iran (1,754,933), South Africa (1,530,033), Ukraine (1,516,865), Indonesia (1,425,044), Peru (1,412,406), Czech Republic (1,402,420) and the Netherlands (1,178,501), the CSSE figures showed.
