STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. New York State has a new Regents chancellor, and he is the first African American to be elected to the position.
The Board of Regents, meeting virtually on Monday, elected Dr. Lester W. Young Jr. to lead the state’s education policy-making body.
As chancellor, Young will lead and serve as the presiding officer of the Board of Regents, which is responsible for the general supervision of all educational activities in the state, presiding over The University of the State of New York and the New York State Education Department (NYSED), according to the state. ....
