Marciano. a complicated situation. you have currents that are closer to shore that go one way, currents further away from shore that go another way and then the wind kind of steering the very surface of those waters. so here s a look at where the wind flow is right now, a cool breeze out of the north-northwest so, that s kind of kept it to offshore, pushed it to the south and east. give you perspective, the actual spill is right at the mouth of the mississippi river and that s pretty much where there s an intersection of two different currents going two different ways. the main current well offshore is this loop current that kind of heads towards florida. if it still gets that far south, it would go towards florida, but winds at the surface later this week are actually going to be going against that from the southeast toward the northwest and that would bring it closer to the louisiana shoreline where there is a current that goes from east to west. so we re at the womhims of many var ....

It s almost like the intersection between two very different currents, the loop current and florida current that kind of goes around florida, which gives florida some clear water and then the close current near the louisiana shoreline kind of goes definitely goes from east to west. so it s right at that spot. it moves a little further to the west, gets picked up by this current, moves further south and east and will get picked up by this current. over the next couple days our winds are going to switch and we ll see more of a south and southeasterly wind. that would tend it to bring a little closer to the louisiana shoreline. it s still days before that would become an issue and hopefully by then they ll have at least the bulk of that crude oil cleaned up in one way, shape, or form. all right. it ain t black but it s white, certainly across parts of the green and white mountain, and this is in the form of some snow, late spring snow and heavy wet snow at that. how much snow, you say? ....

Meteorologist chad myers for the latest on the forecast. where s it now and where is it headed? still a couple hundred miles south of the mouth of the mississippi. now, that s not new orleans. new orleans is not on the mouth of the mississippi, it s up river about 60 miles or so, but the storm is over very, very warm water. that s its location. over the loop current, the warmest water in the gulf of mexico, and it is trying to strengthen. 85 miles per hour right now, trying to get to 90 at landfall. most of the 90 mile per hour winds will be east of the eye, because we already have that forward motion. this thing is moving 22 miles per hour. you have to add the speed of the wind to the speed of the hurricane itself, and the direction, the forward motion, so new orleans may be on the easy side of the eye, where on the right side, which would be biloxi, gulf port, dolphin island, even into mobile bay, that s what would be hit the most and hardest at a 90 mile per hour spin. here s the ....

Waterway near south padre island to keep approaching oil from spoiling this popular sport fishing area, which is also vital to shrimp fishing and endangered wildlife. oil skimming vessels are also being put into service to catch any patches of oil which may get through. about five miles offshore another team of private oil containment workers is is prepared to intercept drifting oil before it gets to land. the coast guard has already said it will be impossible to get it all, and they re particularly concerned about oil moving under water. plumes of oil moving under water. oil containment teams, skimming vessels. again, these are not badly colorized reports from the bp oil disaster in the gulf right now, this is reporting from deja vu land, from essentially the same disaster in the gulf of mexico but in 1979. the only thing missing back then was worries that the loop current would carry the oil out of the gulf of mexico all the way to the coast of florida. oh, wait. there is now a d ....
