Horry County Schools Superintendent Dr. Rick Maxey will seek an early retirement, perhaps stepping aside as soon as June 30, the end of the current fiscal year. School Board Chairman David Cox said Maxey had planned on making his official retirement request at the board’s scheduled April 29 meeting, but those plans were pre-empted by the news report.
Loris City Council had voted 5-2 in August to purchase the complex, located on prime land off Highway 701 near the city center, for $1.5 million as part of a lawsuit settlement with the former owner.
