Gretchen Whitmer has signed legislation authorizing $37.8 million in Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund grants that will support outdoor recreation projects throughout the state, including $2.13 million for the purchase of more than 4 miles of riverfront property on the Sturgeon River in eastern Dickinson County. The Sturgeon River parcel is about 1.5 miles south of U.S. 2 and just west of County Road 569 in Waucedah Township. It includes whitewater rapids, waterfalls, granite cliffs and old growth forest.
