Giving: Roanoke Valley SPCA receives grant to help pets and the people who care for them

The Roanoke Valley SPCA has received a $10,000 grant from the Louise R. Lester Foundation for two programs. The grant will be used for the Sara Jane and Mickey Second Chance Fund and the Companion Animal Relief Fund. “This gift will help us to provide medical and behavioral care for both owned pets and shelter pets,” said Denise Hayes, chief executive officer of the Roanoke Valley SPCA. “We are so grateful for the continued support of the Louise R. Lester Foundation in our efforts to keep pets and people together.” The C.A.Re Fund helps economically challenged pet owners struggling with extraordinary veterinary expenses to keep their pets healthy and at home with them.

ROANOKE, Va. – Pet parents will soon have a helping hand when it comes to taking care of their pets. On Thursday, Roanoke Valley SPCA announced that it has been awarded a $10,000 grant that will go toward the Sara Jane and Mickey Second Chance Fund and the Companion Animal Relief (C.A.Re.) Fund. The C.A.Re. Fund will help pet owners who are struggling financially pay for expensive vet costs. The Sara Jane and Mickey Second Chance Fund will give pet owners financial assistance for medical procedures and behavioral assessments of shelter cats and dogs. “This gift will help us to provide medical and behavioral care for both owned pets and shelter pets,” said Denise Hayes, Chief Executive Officer of the Roanoke Valley SPCA. “We are so grateful for the continued support of the Louise R. Lester Foundation in our efforts to keep pets and people together!”

Spring Scholarship Recipients Announced | Beaufort County Now

Press Release:   The Beaufort County Community College Foundation is proud to announce the following scholarship recipients for the Spring 2021 semester.   Allie Cabacar, 21, received the BCCC Faculty Senate and the Washington Women s Club Scholarships. The Creswell resident is part of the medical office administration program and working toward an Associate in Science. Cabacar attended Columbia Early College High School, and she plans to transfer to East Carolina State University to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Health Services Management. She is the daughter of Michael and Lynn Cabacar of Creswell.   Established and funded by the BCCC Faculty, students must have a minimum GPA 3.0 GPA and demonstrate financial need and not receiving any additional funding. Students must present a recommendation letter from one faculty member at BCCC. Faculty Senate as a body will choose the recipient from a list of those eligible.
