Rhodri Davies during his time with Dragons. CRYMYCH man Rhodri Davies went over for a late score to secure a famous win for the Cornish Pirates as they beat former Premiership and European champions Saracens at Mennaye Field. Davies, a former pupil a Ysgol y Preseli, scampered over the line with four minutes left to complete a stunning 25-17 triumph over the Sarries in their Greene King IPA Championship opener. “It’s a great club, and the boys are great,” said the 29 year-old scrum-half, who joined the Pirates ahead of the 2019/20 season on a two-year contract, and is keen to make his mark this season.

It's been nearly 12 months since the Cornish Pirates last played a game at the Mennaye Field, but the wait is nearly over. On Saturday, Pirates will line up against Jersey Reds in a warm-up friendly fixture in preparation of the upcoming Championship season. In an interview on Facebook, joint head coach, Gavin Cattle, said: "We expect it to be a bit disjointed, but for us it’s about getting that contact level up. "It will be a big test in term of new combinations and stuff like that but the result is not something we’re really focussed on, we’re trying a few things and a few combinations.
Bazalgette, 22, joins the Pirates after previously honing his skills with Exeter University RFC and Wimborne RFC. Inverness-born Harry has previously represented Dorset & Wiltshire under 20's and proved himself to be a prolific scorer with the boot. Cornish Pirates' joint head coach, Gavin Cattle, said: "[He was] brought to our attention, looking at Harry play and then seeing him training we liked what we saw. He has a strong kicking game, leads by example and has good knowledge and game management for a young man. “Although not tested at Championship level, Harry undoubtedly shows considerable potential and is someone who will be exciting to work with.”
