A former Des Moines therapist who had a sexual relationship with a client has been sentenced to two years probation. Janet Lynn Gideon, 35, who now lives in Florida, was arrested last summer and in December pleaded guilty to one count of sexual exploitation by a counselor or therapist; she was sentenced May 4. Gideon treated the male client in her role as a therapist at Next Step Counseling Services in Des Moines between March of 2018 and January of 2019, according to court documents. Text messages and medical paperwork were used to link their overlapping professional and personal relationship, police said in charging documents. ....
