Durham Public Schools Board of Education scheduled an emergency meeting for Wednesday to address ongoing pay issues.

The submitted rezoning request consisted of adding up to 1,382 apartment units, a 200-room hotel and 300,000 square feet of office space. These new additions could grow the mall to 3.3 million square feet while it currently sits at 1.3 million square feet. 

Eight years ago, Durham Public Schools bought over 50 acres of former farmland off of Scott King Road, near C.M. Herndon Park in South Durham. The land is now home to a brand-new school, Lyons Farm Elementary.

Lyons Farm Elementary School is the name chosen after nearly 700 community members weighed in with their suggestions and comments about the name for the upcoming school.
